Recently Comcast decided to take its cable service digital, making it necessary to have a box in order to get the most basic of channels. My home was deeply affected by this change. Some say “why don’t you call Comcast and get the box?” And believe me I would, if it were that simple. See we had that good good discount on cable services. You know the kind where you don’t get a bill every month because Comcast doesn’t know they’re providing services. Yeaaaaaaaaa. That kind of discount. Some call it “bootleg” or “illegal” I call it a discount :).
When the transition first took place I thought I could survive it. Some channels such as MTV, E! (which I love) and Lifetime were amongst the first to go. However I didn’t fret because some of my favorites like Bravo, A&E, Vh1, USA, and ABC Family were still around. Then one night we came home and the inevitable happened—ALL the channels were gone! Just like that Comcast had finished its job. I was pissed. How they just gonna ruin my television lifestyle? Who do THEY (Comcast) think they are? I’m the type of gal who likes to be in tune with the newest shows especially the ones making controversy. I have NOT seen an episode of Jersey Shore and boy am I pissed! (Tried watching online but MTV took the epi’s down for a while.) Not to mention award season is right around the corner and I love the red carpet on E! And Fashion Police. I mean the SAGS come on in a week and those are one of my favorites.
Now I know that some of you are thinking that I could do other things besides watch television. But I’ve read 5 of the 7 books I checked out and the last two are hard to dig in to. (New Moon and Eclipse, shoot me later Tranae). I’m also an avid tweeter (@d_ayanna) and news checker on my Blackberry.
The best( and by best I mean worst) part of this whole ordeal is that I still get a few channels. They include QVC & HSN and C-SPAN. WTF??!! My favorite “cable” channel that still exists is TV Guide Network. It’s like dangling human flesh in front of a shark and pulling it away just in time. Please can someone explain to me what good is it to know what is coming on if I can’t see it? Because of this whole Comcast debacle I’ve become reacquainted with the joys (*sigh*) of regular television programming. I’ve always been a big fan of Regis and Kelly so usually they start off my day. But as the day progresses the quality of t.v dims for a bit and then regains some pizzazz. The highlight of my day is 1pm on 24 (My Network) when Law & Order SVU reruns come on. After that I spend the next hour watching Jerry Springer, I’m not even going to go into detail about this because I can devote a whole other blog to that. At about 3pm regular tv becomes a bit more bearable because a few watchable talk shows come on in the hours that follow. Then Jeopardy!!! Jeopardy’s end signals that the day is winding down and primetime tv will follow. This brings smiles because shows such as NCIS, Criminal Minds, and CSI are amongst my favorites.
However, to you, Comcast I give a big, huge, colossal FUCK YOU!
